Casey's
fun facts:
Nickname: Cheez
Which musical act would you most like to see in concert? I'd love
to see the Dixie Chicks
What posters/pictures are on the walls of your bedroom?
"Peace" posters, "Children helping Children" poster, pictures of
family and friends and several different sunflowers.
I feel most comfortable when I'm...in the bathtub soaking up the
suds! And at my job at King's Landing
What is your favourite movie? "The Notebook" and "I am Sam"
What is your favourite book? "Joni"
What has been the biggest
accomplishment of your life?
I would have to say definitely this.
Getting my "gold ticket" was very satisfying. The rest has been a
bonus and very exciting.
What are you the most proud of?
I'm proud of the fact that I have
lived my life so far by not changing who I am and I strive to continue
to do that each day.
Which item could you not live
without?
I could not live without my hair
dryer. (Really bad hair!)
What's been the best day of your
life?
The best day in my life so far would
have to be the day that Canadian Artist Terry Kelly made a point to
come find me at my school after I had introduced myself to him and had
seen him perform earlier in the afternoon. He didn't have to do that
but his going that extra mile was very much appreciated. That's the
kind of person I want to be. That was very kind of him.
If you could meet one person,
living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Patsy Cline. I
think she and dozens of other female artists laid out the road ahead
of us and I could only hope to be remembered by a fraction of the
people that she is remembered by today, so many years after her
passing.
What do you think has gotten you this far in the competition?
Hopefully my singing abilities,
combined with who I am and the image I portray.
What will it take for you to
become the Canadian Idol?
It will take hard work, dedication,
good performances and inner strength on my part, and hopefully I'll
have whatever it is that the public is looking for in the next
Canadian Idol.
What has been the most challenging
part of the competition so far?
The competitions were easy compared to
watching the people who didn't make it through go home, and wondering
what it is you have that they don't when you have actually watched
them perform or performed with them and found them to be greatly
talented.
Whose career path would you like
to follow and why?
I'd like to make my own path I think.
Until now I have been fortunate to have found good people who have
helped me along to this point. I don't think there is any such thing
as coincidence, so if I am meant for this it will happen. Even if it
doesn't happen something else will come along as it always has. I do
know that I will continue to sing no matter what because it is one of
the greatest joys in my life mostly because it brings joy to others.
What part of the Canadian Idol
experience has surprised you the most?
I would have to say the song choices
we were given have surprised me most. The music was varied and some I
had never heard of however I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked
a lot of them. I am not a "pop" artist I guess and there was not a lot
of pop in the choices which was great for me and very Canadian I
think.
What did you learn about yourself
during the Top 100?
I learned that I can function with
minimal sleep and I do well under pressure.
What was your reaction when you
made the Top 32?
I cried. I had no idea when I was in
the room of 16 whether I would be through or not. I was definitely
excited and felt like the small town girl in the big city had made it.
It was very surreal. This has been such a wonderful experience right
from the beginning that each day I would say to my mom that if I go
home today I will be truly happy to have made it this far and I meant
that. To make top 32 was more than I could have imagined.
Who has been the greatest inspiration of your life?
There are two. My uncle Dave who is on
the Canadian National Wheelchair Basketball team and has won two
Paralympic Gold medals. He has faced challenges head on and has taught
me a lot. My best friend Amanda has taught me a lot as well with
challenges that she has faced and dealt with. She is a single mom who
does a great job raising her child and I admire her so much for that.
Who has helped to make you the
singer you are today?
I would have to say a man named Pat
Flanagan. He saw something in me he liked and seemed to know my music
preferences immediately. He introduced me to different artists and
styles of music and has always been encouraging and constructively
critical in his kind way.
What song touches you the most?
Why does it affect you so much?
I would have to say "Amazing Grace."
Last year I had a very troubled classmate take her own life. Her
foster mom asked me if I would sing at her funeral. This was the hymn
she chose. She said she felt her daughter was "lost but now was found"
and "was blind but now she sees." I didn't think I could do it but I
did and it felt good to be able to. I've since sung it at a committal
as well and I feel it can mean many things to different people in
different situations. It is a very touching song.
What song title best describes
you?
"Put a Little Love in Your Heart."
It's who I am. I'm all about love and sharing and caring. I'd like to
be known as a peacemaker. I've had people tell me I was born a few
decades too late!
What do you do to keep your nerves in check during the competition?
I try to think about other things. I
find if I dwell on it then I can get crazy.
How has this competition changed
you?
I hope it hasn't changed me. I feel
like it is who I am that got me here, so I want to be true to the
whole experience and continue being me.
What is your motto?
"When the Power of Love overcomes the
Love of Power; then there will be Peace."
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I say " I don't know" too much. |
